Salford Employment Hub gets Ministerial visit

Salford Employment Hub was pleased to welcome the Minister for Employment, the Rt Hon Dame Diana Johnson, to Pendleton Gateway on Thursday 29 January as part of a visit to understand how local and national employment services can work more closely together.

Following a tour of Worsley Jobcentre, the Minister met with Salford City Council leaders, members of the Skills and Work team, and staff from Salford Employment Hub to hear how the city is delivering a coordinated, place based offer for residents. The visit explored how our ‘single front door’ model simplifies access to employment, skills and training support, and how this aligns with Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provision.

Frontline advisers, partners and local residents shared their experiences of programmes including Salford Futures, In work Progression and WorkWell. These conversations highlighted the impact of personalised support, from confidence building and wellbeing advice to intensive key worker guidance, and the role of local services in helping people overcome barriers to work.

Since launching in 2024, the Salford Employment Hub has already supported more than 2,700 residents, helping hundreds into work and connecting many more with training, skills development and financial wellbeing support. The Minister also heard about the value of partnership working across community organisations, employers, health professionals and Jobcentres in strengthening outcomes.
